The violinist Robert Davidovici won the 1983 Carnegie Hall International American Music Competition, and therefore it is no surprise that the 20th-century American works on his Wednesday night concert at the 92d Street Y were particularly rewarding. Mr. Davidovici's playing is focused, accomplished and at the service of a keen musical intelligence. His tone is centered, if rather dry, and his technique knows few difficulties. Hugh Aitken's terse, effective Partita for Solo Violin was played with a slashing intensity.
