Orange Blossom Special is the 21st album released by musician Johnny Cash on Columbia Records in 1965. The recordings include country and folk standards, such as "The Long Black Veil", "When It's Springtime in Alaska", "Danny Boy" and "Wildwood Flower". The song that gave the title to the album was "Orange Blossom Special", released previous to the album, it became a success. At the time it was recorded, the authorship of the song was not widely known, being commonly covered by diverse artists.
Orange Blossom Special is a standard bluegrass song written in 1938 by Ervin T. Rouse & Gordon Rouse, about the passenger train of the same name. It’s so famous in bluegrass circles that it’s often referred to as the Fiddle Players' National Anthem. Indeed, there was once a campaign to make it the Florida State Song! Johnny Cash named his 1965 album after the song and opened the album with it. While bluegrass performers tend to play it as strictly an instrumental, Cash sang the lyrics, and (some would say, blasphemously) replaced the fiddle parts with two harmonicas.

Orange Blossom Special. Even if the best and most popular songs on this 1965 album are the ones most likely to show up on greatest-hits compilations ("The Long Black Veil, "Orange Blossom Special," "It Ain't Me Babe"), it certainly rates as one of Cash's finer non-greatest-hits releases. If nothing else, it would have historical importance for the inclusion of three Bob Dylan covers, at a time when Dylan was just starting to get heavily covered by pop musicians (and not often covered by country ones).
