Monalisa Twins - Composer, Primary Artist
In the spring of this year I went looking for a cover of The Beatles "When I'm 64" for my brother who was turning 64 the next day. To my eternal delight that is when I first discovered the MonaLisa Twins! I was hooked immediately and began to watch their YouTube videos. I began with The Beatles and other '60's covers. But when I listened to the songs of their 2012 debut album "When We're Together" that is when I was truly blown away! I heard all the songs on the web, and had to immediately order this CD. The first time I listened non-stop to the album and read along the lyrics with their booklet, my mouth was agape and my eyes wide open! I knew that this was something very, very special. Within just a few hearings I declared this to be my new #1 All-Time album, replacing one from The Moody Blues in 1972, 44 years ago! Not only that, but now the MonaLisa Twins are tied with The Moody Blues as my #1 All-Time Band, surpassing the likes of The Beatles, The Bee Gees, ABBA, The Beach Boys, The Who, The Rolling Stones, and all others in the process. And this is from after only their debut album of original work! They are on the brink of releasing their second album and those of us who know about them can hardly wait. If someone is previously unaware of these lovely, charming, and ultra-talented young ladies and their music, then they must run, and not walk, to immediately obtain this CD "When We're Together!" If you fail to do so, it is your great loss. If you act on this and the other reviews, you will thank us now and thank us later. If you love awesome, clean, and groovy music, this is my personal guarantee! p.s. Do not forget their DVD of videos of all 11 tracks and a behind-the-scenes making of each video; it is incredible! In my humble opinion, the best decade for popular music was the 1960s (though the '70s were good too, and the '90s have a special place in my heart... but I digress). And this album, amazingly, succeeds in reviving (not just imitating) that great pop and rock music of the 60s! It does it brilliantly, with the bright and melodic harmony vocals of these 2 girls (actual twins), the use of instruments like those used by most bands back in that golden decade, but with 21st century sound quality... But most importantly - the mightily impressive songwriting by these same two girls, who were only around 16 years old, when they wrote most of these songs, believe it or not. The original chord progressions, the song structures, the arrangements, and everything else is so well done, that at times it reminds the listener of the work of legendary songwriters of the '60s, the likes of McCartney, Lennon, and Paul Simon, without actually ripping anything off. This is a must have CD (and DVD) for anyone, who wants great music to reign again.
I started listening to MonaLisa Twins in Oct , of 2016 while surfing YouTube for Beatle music and came across a video of them when they were 13 years old playing with there Father and Mother on stage somewhere in Austria, over the next week I watch most of there you tube video's and it was like watching them grow up before your eyes and you could see how much they have grown as musicians and their skills as singer song writers are unbelievable, They bring back the sound of the 60's in a very fresh way and the song (Wide Wide land) is very special because its about their Grandmother who had Alzheimer's and my family is going through the same thing with our mother. I can honestly say every song on this CD is very good ===.Kevin O'Hare from Hammond IN.
If you like the Beatles and other acts from the sixties, or just want to listen to some beautiful music with stunning vocals and guitar work LOOK NO FURTHER. These ladies are the real deal! ????✌????
I was searching Beatles concert videos on YouTube in July and up popped the MonaLisa Twins cover of "I Saw Her Standing There." I thought, "Wow! They sound pretty good," and so I listened to the next one, their cover of "Drive My Car." I was hooked for good at that moment. After going through many of their covers of Beatles and other 60s songs, I checked out their original songs, the ones that are here on this CD "When We're Together." That's when I knew they were the real deal. Not only can they do great covers, but they can also create new great music! When I first heard "June," I was really impressed, a song that sounded familiar, yet at the same time fresh and original. I can tell you that every song on this CD is like that: familiar like you have heard and loved it all your life, and at the same time new and fresh -- because it is an original, written and performed by the MonaLisa Twins! I can't wait for their new collection of originals. If you treat yourself to this CD, you will be among their happy fans who have found them and are looking forward to the next chapter. It's like a kid, waiting for Christmas morning.
Debut album of the very talented MonaLisa Twins. These twin sisters are on a mission to reintroduce the world to the Sound of the 60s and beat music which swept the world in my youth. This album isn't a throwback to the sounds of the Beatles, Stones, Kinks, or other members of the British Invasion. It is a fresh, high spirited collection of all original songs written by these girls when they were just teenagers and captures that energy the makes Beat music such fun to listen to. I haven't been this excited by new music in a couple of decades. Skillfully crafted lyrics and musically magical tunes that will make you long for the days when music was fun to listen to.
After spending the previous four years thrilling their rapidly increasing audience on You Tube and breathing new life into their favorite songs, mostly from the 60s, 2012 saw the year that these super talented teenage Austrian twins release their debut album of all original new songs. And they should be incredibly proud of it.The 60s theme, with some Merseybeat influence, continues throughout the album. All done MonaLisa style. And these young musicians have delivered an album of the highest quality. Its an album that gets better the deeper you go into it with, in my opinion, the best songs all loaded in the second half. Its a collection of 60s style rock n roll, dreamy ballads and folk songs, the occasional venture into pop,and the longest song that closes the album, Nothing Is In Vain, a journey into 60s psychedelia. Both girls are highly accomplished and inventive musicians The album has wonderful vocals with some of the best females harmonies you will hear anywhere this side of the North Pole. Along with their songwriting talent, its an album that deserves a place in any record collection. And absolutely no filler.
I discovered these gals quite happily by chance around 2008 on YouTube while looking for Mama's and Papas covers. Immediately I was impressed by the gifted caliber these two posess. Upon buying this CD, and listening to it, once it arrived, many things struck me about it to which I will share here: #1- Each song is crafted with its own distinctiveness . #2- It's refreshing and positive departure of/in today's music landscape. #3- One listens to this CD, and cannot help but be but be Grooved by it. A worthwhile music investment to acquire in your musical library . DEFINITELY a 5 star rating !!!!
These girls are the best thing to happen to the music scene for a long time. Vivacious, talented, with great vocal harmonies which are echoed in their guitar arrangements. They bring new life to songs from the great days of pop music. I hope they get the recognition they truly deserve.
Awesome, upbeat songs combined with thoughtful, mellow tunes...love these girls!
