Robert/atzmon,gilad/stephen,ros wyatt - for the ghosts within CD new+. Wyatt Atzmon Stephen. For The Ghosts Within cd Robert Wyatt. Where are the days Wyatt told the world he couldn't sing properly anymore, because his voice was now no more than "a croak"?
The Ghosts Within typifies the uniqueness of Wyatt’s oeuvre, though on this occasion it’s not just his. Violinist, composer and tango player Ros Stephen plus saxophone tyro and political writer Gilad Atzmon make this an equilateral triangle of talents. Atzmon has previously played on Wyatt’s albums and collaborated with Stephen on Gilad With Strings, a project honouring Charlie Parker’s dalliance with classical orchestration

Domino is proud to release Wyatt, Atzmon, Stephen’s beautiful album, For the Ghosts Within. For The Ghosts Within is a new collaboration between Robert Wyatt, Gilad Atzmon and violinist/composer Ros Stephen. A song cycle featuring standards such as "Lush Life", "In A Sentimental Mood" and "Round Midnight", For The Ghosts Within places Wyatt’s voice (and whistling) amid the seductive drama of string quartet, alto saxophone, and the universal rhythms of the night.
For other people named Robert Wyatt, see Robert Wyatt (disambiguation). The album featured strongly political songs with relatively sparse arrangements played largely by Wyatt alone. In the late 1980s, after collaborations with other acts such as News from Babel, Scritti Politti, and Japanese recording artist Ryuichi Sakamoto, he and his wife Alfreda Benge spent a sabbatical in Spain, before returning in 1991 with a comeback album Dondestan. 2009: Radio Experiment Rome, February 1981. For the Ghosts Within (with Gilad Atzmon and Ros Stephen). 2013: '68. 2015: KiTsuNe (with The Future Eve).
The mockney Chet Baker sound of Robert Wyatt singing standards ("Laura", "Lush Life", would you believe "What a Wonderful World"?) to the taut yet tender backing of the Sigamos String Quartet was the inspired idea of violinist Ros Stephen. And that would be enough. But what takes this beyond, into a characteristic Wyatt-world where the personal and political are fused is the context of Palestine, reflected in Alfreda Benge's lyrics and the presence of Gilad Atzmon, who produces and plays.
