Johann Gottlieb Goldberg (also Gollberg, Goltberg; baptised 14 March 1727 – 13 April 1756) was a German virtuoso harpsichordist, organist, and composer of the late Baroque and early Classical period. He is most famous for lending his name, as the probable original performer, to the renowned Goldberg Variations of . Variations: Viewing All Johann Gottlieb Goldberg. Bach: The Goldberg Variations is the 1955 debut album of Canadian classical pianist Glenn Gould. An interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations (BWV 988), the work launched Gould's career as a renowned international pianist, and became one of the most well-known piano recordings. Sales were "astonishing" for a classical album: it was reported to have sold 40,000 copies by 1960, and had sold more than 100,000 by the time of Gould's death in 1982.

Goldberg, Johann Gottlieb. Opus/Catalogue NumberOp. If one understands the notes to a Verso recording of two concertos by Goldberg properly, then there are only 2 surviving harpsichord concertos by him (in D minor and E-flat), and so the D minor concerto recorded there must be the one here. Both concertos are -very- substantial in length (and perhaps this composer is more on the early Classical side than the Baroque side of the line in some ways if not others) (even if date is "1751-1776"(?). RISM also has a D minor concerto DürG 16a which seems to be an incomplete different concerto in D minor by the composer.
Johann Sebastian Bach regarded the young Johann Gottlieb Goldberg as his most talented pupil. Not much more is known about the Danzig native Goldberg besides the fact that he was the dedicatee of the famous variations bearing his name. He died of tuberculosis at the very early age of twenty-nine but left behind a compact oeuvre giving us an idea of what might have come next
