The Polyphonic Spree was formed, in part, in reaction to Berggren's death. In 2000, DeLaughter collaborated with 12 other musicians to put together a sound that reflected the music he grew up with. He wanted to explore the orchestral palette and pop sensibility of The Beatles, The Association, The 5th Dimension, Wings, Electric Light Orchestra and The Beach Boys and the vocal style of Ozzy Osbourne from Black Sabbath . On August 6, 2013, the band played a sold-out concert at London's Village Underground to mark the release of their album Yes, It's True. The performance was broadcast live on Vimeo. A US release show at the Granada Theater in Dallas followed on August 9, and the band toured in support of the album worldwide.

Instead, the multi-member symphonic pop group The Polyphonic Spree have released their own holiday single, the aptly-titled It’s Christmas. We knew that already, cause Thanksgiving was totally last week. The track was originally composed in 2003 during early sessions for the band’s second album, Together We’re Heavy, and has subsequently been unearthed and mixed.
With Yes, It’s True, the band's first new, non-Christmas album since 2007 (and first ever Kickstarter-funded effort), the Spree’s blazing beacon of positivity is shining as brightly as it ever has, but with a new edge that is more clearly defined. The Polyphonic Spree's first three records comprise a opus-thing (the tracks are titled "Section 1" through "Section 32"), but Yes, It’s True escapes the bounds of that structure; each of its songs has a full title.
Yes, It’s True is sucked dry of reasons for its maxims, not affected enough to make them count, not stimulating enough to let them breathe. All DeLaughter is left with is this record of weak dos and strong don’ts. On record Yes, It's True feels insubstantial, which is disappointing because when they don't go overboard they can still craft interesting music.
