Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Sir Thomas Beecham – conductor. Widely regarded as the finest conductor Great Britain has produced, Sir Thomas Beecham was born in April 1879 in St Helens, Lancashire, into the family of the pharmaceutical firm of Sir Joseph Beecham. After attending Rossall School and Wadham College, Oxford, he studied music in London and Paris, while travelling widely in Europe. He conducted his first concerts in 1899 and his first opera in 1902. He founded the first of his three orchestras, the Beecham Symphony Orchestra, in 1909 and his own opera company in 1915

Sir Thomas Beecham conducts Symphony No. 38 in D, "Prague," . 04, III. Presto From: VAI DVD 4230 Sir Beecham in Montréal Sir Thomass television appearances were, surprisingly, largely limited to North America. His concerts were captured by cameras in Chicago, Toronto, and Montréal, but, apparently, only once in his native country. The Montréal concert, which took place in 1956, is the earliest of Sir Thomass television appearances. The original kinescope, which was thought to be lost, was recently rediscovered and restored to the Montréal studios of Radio-Canada.
